The Saint Paul Stars Synchronized Swimming Team (SPS) is a competitive synchronized swimming team registered as Club #363 with the U.S. Synchronized Swimming Association. The Team was founded in 1997 to offer a synchronized swimming program in the city of Saint Paul and surrounding area. The Team operates under the auspices of the Saint Paul Community Education Program. It offers a program for girls and boys at the entry level through advanced skill level that includes formal training and opportunities to swim at the competitive level. Both are crucial to developing the skills of young athletes. The Team offers training and conditioning sessions, provides coaches and forms teams in order to develop the synchronized swimming skills of all youth who participate. The number of swimmers on our team varies from year to year, averaging between 30-40 swimmers. The swimmers range in age from 6 19. Swimmers pay fees to participate. Three sessions (fall, winter, and spring) are sponsored by the Saint Paul Community Education Program which provides pool time and pays for coaches during that time frame. Additional expenses are charged to each swimmer for: extra pool time and coaching, uniforms, practice and competition swimsuits, headpieces and gear, travel expenses, lodging for out-of-town competitions, and clinics. The swimmers are encouraged to attend national level synchronized swimming camps offered yearly. Opportunities to compete at local and regional invitational meets are provided yearly. SPS swimmers may participate in Novice, Intermediate and Age Group Competitions which progress from a local (association) competition meet, to a regional (multi-state) competition, and finally to the National Age Group competition. Additional levels of competition are provided for elite athletes through Junior Nationals and US Opens which are qualifying meets for the US Junior National teams. With qualifying scores, swimmers may also compete at the North Zones meet. SPS also has had swimmers participate in the US Open. All of these meets are sponsored or sanctioned by the US Synchronized Swimming Association, a section 501(c) (3) tax exempt organization. |
